KokoPaws Security Dog Sling for small dogs with removable waist support during everyday travel

What Is a Security Dog Sling? A More Secure Carrier for Small Dogs

What Is a Security Dog Sling? A More Secure Carrier for Small Dogs

A security dog sling is a wearable carrier designed to remain closer to the wearer’s body during bending, traveling, carrying bags and other everyday movements.

The KokoPaws Security Sling combines the comfortable shape of our classic dog sling with front closures and removable waist support. These additional features help reduce unwanted movement and keep the carrier in a more stable position when the wearer needs both hands free.

We created this collection from our own experience of living and traveling with Cristian, our small dog, for more than nine years.

Our goal was not to replace the traditional dog sling. We wanted to create an extended version for situations in which the owner needs greater control over the position of the carrier.

Why We Created the KokoPaws Security Sling

Many everyday situations require both hands.

You may need to:

  • carry suitcases through an airport;
  • hold shopping bags;
  • use public transportation;
  • tie your shoelaces;
  • pick something up from the floor;
  • walk through a busy city;
  • travel alone with your dog;
  • manage luggage during a long journey.

When you bend forward while wearing a traditional soft sling, the carrier may naturally move away from your body or change its angle. Some owners instinctively support the bottom of the sling with one hand during these movements.

We wanted to create a version that could stay more closely connected to the wearer’s body without requiring constant support from one hand.

That is why we developed the KokoPaws Security Sling.

It was not created because of an accident or a negative experience. It was created proactively, based on the situations we regularly experience with Cristian during walks, shopping, travel and everyday life.

How the Security Sling Works

The KokoPaws Security Sling includes two main additions to the traditional sling design:

Front Closures

The front buttons allow the opening of the sling to be partially closed after the dog has been placed inside.

They help keep the top of the carrier more contained and make it more difficult for the dog to move quickly toward the opening.

The closures are not intended to seal the carrier completely. Your dog’s head remains outside, allowing the dog to observe the surroundings and stay close to you.

Removable Waist Support

A removable strap attaches to the lower part of the sling and closes around the wearer’s waist.

Its purpose is to connect the bottom of the carrier more closely to the wearer’s body.

When the wearer bends, reaches down or makes an unusual movement, the waist support helps the sling maintain a more consistent position and angle.

This is especially useful when carrying luggage, shopping, traveling or completing tasks that require both hands.

What Makes It Different from a Regular Dog Sling?

The main difference is not the way the dog sits.

Both the classic KokoPaws Sling and the Security Sling are shaped to allow a small dog to sit in a natural position without forcing the back into an unnatural curve.

The main difference is how the carrier is secured to the wearer.

A traditional sling is supported from the shoulder and moves naturally with the body. The Security Sling adds:

  • front button closures;
  • attachment points at the bottom of the carrier;
  • removable waist support;
  • additional stability during bending and non-standard movements.

During a normal walk, both styles can feel comfortable and practical.

The Security Sling becomes especially useful when your movements are less predictable or when you cannot keep one hand near the carrier.

Is the Waist Support Removable?

Yes.

The waist support and buckles are removable. When you do not need the additional support, you can detach them and use the product more like a traditional KokoPaws Sling.

The small attachment loops remain visible on the carrier, but the removable components do not need to be worn during every walk.

This gives the owner two ways to use the same product:

  • with the waist support for travel, shopping and hands-free activities;
  • without the waist support for regular walks and relaxed everyday use.

Who Is the Security Sling For?

The Security Sling is not designed only for active or nervous dogs.

Its primary purpose is to make carrying more practical for the person wearing it.

It may be especially useful for:

  • people who frequently travel alone with their dogs;
  • owners who carry luggage or shopping bags;
  • city residents;
  • people who use trains or public transportation;
  • owners who need both hands available;
  • long travel days;
  • busy airports and stations;
  • everyday errands;
  • small dogs that prefer staying close to their owners.

The classic and Security versions are both designed with the dog’s comfort in mind. The choice depends mainly on how and where the owner plans to use the carrier.

When Should You Use a Security Dog Sling?

A Security Sling can be useful during many everyday situations.

Traveling

Airports, railway stations and unfamiliar cities often require the owner to manage tickets, documents, suitcases and personal belongings.

The removable waist support helps keep the carrier closer to the body while the owner handles these tasks.

A soft dog sling does not replace a closed travel carrier when one is required by a transport company or airline. Always check the specific carrier rules before traveling.

Shopping and City Walks

When carrying purchases or navigating busy streets, the Security Sling allows the owner to keep both hands available.

The front closures and waist support can also be useful when entering shops, cafés or other crowded places.

Everyday Tasks

The carrier is not only for major trips.

It can also be useful when:

  • taking out the trash;
  • picking up packages;
  • buying groceries;
  • bending to tie a shoe;
  • opening doors;
  • carrying personal belongings.

These simple situations were an important part of the product’s development.

Longer Days Away from Home

During a longer day in the city, the owner may alternate between walking the dog and carrying the dog.

The removable design allows the Security Sling to adapt to different parts of the day.

Does the Security Sling Have an Internal Leash?

No.

The current KokoPaws Security Sling does not include an internal leash that attaches to a collar or harness.

Its security features are:

  • the front button closures;
  • the removable waist support;
  • the connection between the lower carrier and the wearer’s body.

It is important to describe the product accurately. The word “security” refers to the additional control over the carrier’s position and opening. It does not mean that the sling is completely enclosed or that the dog can be left unattended inside it.

Lightweight Security Sling vs Fleece Security Sling

The KokoPaws Security collection is currently available in two versions.

Lightweight Security Sling

The Lightweight Security Sling is made from breathable cotton fabric with a soft looped interior.

It is suitable for:

  • warmer weather;
  • spring and summer walks;
  • indoor use;
  • shopping;
  • travel;
  • everyday city activities.

Fleece Security Sling

Taupe Fleece Security Sling for small dogs by KokoPaws.

The Fleece Security Sling is made from warm polar fleece.

This material is designed for:

  • cooler weather;
  • fall and winter walks;
  • short-haired small dogs;
  • colder travel days;
  • additional warmth during outdoor activities.

The construction and security features are the same in both versions. The primary difference is the fabric and the weather for which each model is designed.

How Much Weight Can It Carry?

The maximum recommended dog weight is:

13 lbs / 6 kg

Weight is important, but it is not the only measurement used to select the correct carrier.

For the best fit, KokoPaws asks customers to provide:

  • the owner’s height;
  • the dog’s weight;
  • the dog’s back length.

These measurements help us choose or create a sling that sits at the correct height and allows the dog to remain comfortable inside.

How Should a Small Dog Sit in the Sling?

A small dog should be able to sit in a natural position similar to the way the dog sits on the floor.

The carrier should not force the dog into a tightly folded position or create an excessive curve in the back.

The dog should sit deeply enough to feel supported while keeping the head outside the carrier.

The fit should feel close to the owner’s body without compressing the dog.

Every dog has a different body shape. That is why weight alone is not always enough to select the right size.

How to Use the KokoPaws Security Sling

Step 1: Put On the Sling

Place the shoulder strap over your body and position the carrier at a comfortable height.

Step 2: Place Your Dog Inside

Carefully lower your dog into the carrier and make sure the dog is sitting naturally.

Step 3: Close the Front Buttons

Fasten the front closures without trapping fur or placing pressure on the dog.

The dog’s head should remain comfortably outside.

Step 4: Attach the Waist Support

Connect the removable strap to the lower attachment points and secure it around your waist.

Adjust it so that the sling stays close to your body without feeling overly tight.

Step 5: Check the Position

Before walking, confirm that:

  • the dog is sitting comfortably;
  • the closures are fastened correctly;
  • the waist support is secure;
  • the sling sits at the correct height;
  • the carrier does not feel too loose or too tight.

What Measurements Do We Need?

Before ordering, we recommend providing three measurements.

Owner’s Height

The wearer’s height helps determine where the sling should sit on the body.

Dog’s Weight

The maximum supported weight is 13 lbs or 6 kg.

Dog’s Back Length

Back length helps us understand the dog’s proportions and the amount of space needed inside the carrier.

Providing accurate measurements is one of the most important steps in achieving a comfortable fit.

Is a Security Sling Completely Escape-Proof?

No soft, open-top dog carrier should be described as completely escape-proof.

The Security Sling includes additional features that help reduce movement and keep the carrier closer to the wearer’s body. However, owners must still:

  • supervise the dog;
  • fasten all closures correctly;
  • select the correct size;
  • check the carrier before use;
  • support the dog when necessary;
  • avoid unsafe or extreme activities.

The carrier is designed for walking, travel and everyday use. It is not designed for cycling, running, driving or leaving a dog unattended.

It also does not replace a secured automotive carrier or vehicle restraint.

Why Real-Life Testing Matters to KokoPaws

Every KokoPaws carrier begins with real life.

For more than nine years, we have lived, walked and traveled with Cristian. Our products are shaped by the situations we experience together:

  • airports;
  • trains;
  • long journeys;
  • city walks;
  • shopping;
  • family trips;
  • everyday errands;
  • days when one person travels alone with the dog.

We pay attention to how the carrier feels for the person and how naturally Cristian sits inside it.

When we notice that a particular situation could be easier, we work on a design solution.

The Security Sling is one example of this process. It was created to give the owner more freedom of movement while helping the carrier remain closer to the body.

Which KokoPaws Security Sling Should You Choose?

Choose the Lightweight Security Sling for warm weather, indoor activities, spring and summer travel.

Choose the Fleece Security Sling for cooler weather, fall and winter walks or short-haired dogs that need additional warmth.

Choose the classic KokoPaws Sling when you prefer a simpler carrier for relaxed everyday walks and do not need waist support.

The best option depends on:

  • your dog’s weight and body shape;
  • your height;
  • the season;
  • how long you plan to carry your dog;
  • whether you need both hands available;
  • where you plan to use the carrier.

A Carrier Created for Life Together

The purpose of KokoPaws is not simply to create another pet accessory.

We design carriers that help small dogs remain part of everyday life.

Whether you are walking through the city, traveling by train, carrying luggage or completing a quick errand, your dog can stay close without making ordinary tasks unnecessarily difficult.

The KokoPaws Security Sling was created from our own experience with Cristian and from one simple idea:

Life is easier when you can stay together.
